Commissioner J.C. Polanco has prepared himself relentlessly for the opportunity to serve the public. Polanco was born in Harlem to immigrant parents from the Dominican Republic and raised in the Fordham section of the Bronx. After college Polanco returned to the Bronx to change lives through education.
Polanco is a proud permanently certified educator who spent years teaching at Truman High School, an inner city public school in the Bronx, Boricua College and the City University of New York, BMCC.
Today, Polanco is an adjunct Assistant Professor of Business and focuses on Business Law and Introduction to Business courses. Polanco also is a member of the Center for Ethnic Studies where he lectures on the History of the Dominican Republic.
In 2007 and in 2009 the New York City Council voted, by unanimous consent, to approve J.C. Polanco's nomination to the New York City Board of Elections. Polanco sits on the Voter Education, Budget and Human Resources Committees. For over two years, Polanco has taken a leadership role in creating a more efficient and transparent Board of Elections for the over five million voters in New York City.
In addition, Polanco serves as the Director for the NYC Regional office for the Assembly Minority Leader, Brian M. Kolb. Polanco spearheads the Assembly Minority agenda for a better, more efficient New York State throughout the Greater New York region. Polanco is passionate about making New York a better place to live, work and raise a family.
Polanco completed a Juris Doctorate from Fordham University School of Law and a Master of Business Administration degree from the Fordham University Graduate School of Business. Polanco is also a triple Fordham Ram having graduated from the Fordham Preparatory School in 1995. Polanco is an attorney and is admitted to practice law in New York and New Jersey.
Polanco belongs to many organizations such as the Morris Park Kiwanis, Bronx Rotary, the New York County Lawyers Association, National Society of Hispanic MBAs and many others.
In 2002, J.C. Polanco married his high school sweetheart Sandra Rodriguez. The Polancos live in the Morris Park section of the Bronx where they raise heir two children, Savannah and Sebastian.
Interesting trivia, J.C. Polanco considers himself to have been the luckiest teenager in history, having had the opportunity to serve as the Batboy for the New York Yankees visiting clubhouse in 1994 and Senior Batboy for the Yankees in 1995.
